Additional Information

In 1886 Wilhelm Dittman came from Aachen to Valkenburg to find a good setting for his Aachener Export Brauerei. He bought the former gunpowder factory and started a branch of the Dittman & Sauerland Actien Brauerei. In 1921, the brewery passed into Dutch hands. The Brouwerij De Leeuw opens in April 4, 1921 and The Lion (Leeuw) Brewery is officially established. Bought by the large Belgian independent Haacht in 1999.

Over the years the brand identity is updated and re-launched with subtle changes, a change of Logo or a new font.
Sometimes this brand update is done by the new owners after a brewery has been sold, other times just to give the brand a fresh new look on the ever growing market.

Below are some notes to help identify some of these changes and an aid to reference the year of the glass.
