The Splügen Brewery (Spluga) in Chiavenna was founded in 1911, In 1939 the Brewery merged with the Poretti brewery (one of the oldest in Italy) to form Poretti Splügen Brewery. The Spluga brewery was closed in 1957. In 1982 the Carlsberg group acquired 50% of the company and a further 25% in 1998, before taking over the full ownership in 2002, making it part of Carlsberg Italia.

Over the years the brand identity is updated and re-launched with subtle changes, a change of Logo or a new font.
Sometimes this brand update is done by the new owners after a brewery has been sold, other times just to give the brand a fresh new look on the ever growing market.
